Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the visual acuity and optical performance after implantation of a aspheric monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) in the cataract patients. Methods: Thirty eyes of 25 cataract patient who underwent implantation of a monofocal aspheric IOL (HOYA PC-60AD) either unilaterally or bilaterally were included. Distance visual acuity and objective visual performance were evaluated preoperatively, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively. At 3 month of postoperation, objective visual performance were compared with the 36 eyes of 18 normal control over 40s. Objective evaluation of optical visual quality, objective scatter index (OSI), modulation transfer function (MTF) and Strehl ratio, was performed by using Optical Quality Analysis System (OQAS) with a 4 mm pupil diameter. Statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS/win programs(version 18.0; SPSS, Inc.). Differences were considered statistically significant when the P vale was less than 0.05. Results: The corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was logMAR preoperatively and logMAR, logMAR at 1 week and 1 month of postoperation respectively that CDVA was significantly improved (p<0.05) until significantly different(p<0.05). OSI, MTF cut off and strehl ratio valuables were significantly different preoperatively and 1 week at postoperatively (p<0.001) and there were no statistically differences after 1 week postoperatively. All valuables (OSI, MTF cut off and strehl ratio) after 3 month of operation were compared with normal control over 40s, there were no significant differences(t-test, p=0.203, p=0.576, p=0.786 respectively). Conclusion: The recovery of visual quality reaches to a stable condition in 1 week after the implantation of aspheric monofocal IOL, and improved to the level of a normal eyes in their 40s.
